Home Renovation Design Diaries: Choosing Empowering & Healing Artwork

Amor Milagre A Gentle Life Collection Custom Interior Design Atelier Service Ethical Romantic Gift Shop female empowerment art choosing empowering and healing artwork amormilagre.com
Atelier Amor Milagre custom interior design, amormilagre.com

At home, at Christmas Rose Cottage, I love richly romantic art, empowering for all genders, depicting gentle, natural scenes to encourage self reflection and a very personal relationship with the higher Self, the inner and true self.  Be it my own loving artwork or prints of passions from long ago, little higher selves can live around these positive images, choose their own, and always look within for whole health Love to feel their bright light of love shining out into the universe, forever glowing for their true hearts to be in their world with clear senses.

Change your artwork with the season if you like to infuse your days with cozy, natural inspiration.  Wander a museum, art gallery, online art history research, or your pencil and paper.  What kind of artwork imagery are you drawn to?  Where do our connections come from?  What, or who, we connect to from forever ago, yes it may be familiar, but we can still choose, now in this moment, is this helpful or harmful?  What feelings does an image, or soul, invoke?  Familiar doesn’t have to mean positive…or negative…we have a choice.  Peace and love this day, holiday, and all days ahead. Design is powerful and so are all of our choices, which imagery is peaceful and calming for you?  Surround yourself in what you Love, XOXO ~ Amor Milagre

Home Renovation Design Diaries & Tips: Yoga Painting

Amor Milagre Yoga Painting Home Renovation Diaries Designer Tips Ethical Gift Shop amormilagre.com

Flocks of W’s and V’s wrap up the walls of our new home at Rose Cottage.  Patch, sand, prime, paint, repeat.  Stretch and bend, over, under, on tiptoes, and balanced on ladders.  How tall are you, what is your reach, and how tall are the ceilings?  Which tools could help you ergonomically paint your darling home?

I’ve received some questions about renovating.  Here are some painting tips.  Your best friend is practice, nothing fancy, but your home will look fancy!

  • Rollers & Extenders:  I find an extender useful with a roller for the middle to top in one position, then stretch to bend for the bottom.  With so much to do, the body needs care and caution.  For high ceilings, steady ladders and a good extender help your back.  This also helps to finish the job much faster and smoother.
  • Angled paint brushes are great for striking out ceilings, woodwork, and corners.  Go slow and steady.  You can always touch up ceilings later if a bristle flecks paint.
  • Use No VOC paint and open windows.  Towels under closed doors help other rooms stay unscented.
  • Tiny art brushes are great for narrow window grid trim.  Painting tape keeps trim and window glass clean.  Use the tape like a straight edge.  Pull it to bend, and press to seal.  This reminded me of my 2D foundation design class for colour theory.  We taped boards to layer shapes and colours with paint and matte medium.  Once you get the trick of it, by practicing, you’ll never scrape paint off glass again.
  • Stretch like in yoga.  Bend, balance, strengthen, but don’t breathe in the paint. 🙂
  • Reuse rollers and brushes by keeping in airtight bag during a project.  Wash when done with a colour, and let dry.  If painting many areas, a rotating routine helps by having several brushes and rollers to use.  Label colours on each bag and set with matching paint can.
  • *Don’t spray the paint as it’s unhealthy for your breathing air.
  • Playing music, for whichever mood you’re ready for, helps you sway with the brushstrokes.  Take your time to save time.
  • I like to paint the trim and doors the same as the wall for a serene aesthetic.
  • Taking breaks is good for muscles, drying times, and an energy boost.  Eating well and sleeping early helps complete renovations faster with less frustrating accidents.  I like to map out a painting routine for the week with room goals.  It helps keep track of what is done, and what is ready to do next.
  • Supportive shoes, ones you don’t mind getting a bit painty, lend strength and longevity to painting sessions.
  • Tarps help keep splatters off floors and walls.  Burlap ones rattle less than plastic ones when windows are open.
  • Temperature is important.  Is the humidity right?  Is it warm enough to paint?  Stir paint before using.
  • Check and clean up as you go.  Check for drips, and smooth out overlap marks.
  • Remove hardware when possible and reattached later.  Tape and cover permanent hardware to keep it unpainted and useful.
  • Use the right paint for each surface.  All your work is worth the energy if the paint stays nice and doesn’t chip due to the wrong paint choice.  Look at the labels.  Trim paint for wood trim.  Wall paint and often paint/primer all in one for walls.  Anything metal, plastic, or other, find the matching paint type.  Ask the shop for advice.
  • Check the paint colour on the chip to see if it was mixed properly before leaving the store.  Check the colour with a sample before ordering large gallon quantities.  Paint a spot on each wall to check how light and shadow change your colour.
  • Surface preparation is key for smooth walls.  Fill in cracks, holes, and dents.  Sand smooth and prime.  Check before painting.

When choosing paint colours, the natural light and room purpose are important to consider.  Look for healthy no-VOC paint options.  Find the family of colours you like, then choose one with enough earthiness for a soothing countenance.  Try it on every wall to see the shadows at all times of day.  What feels comforting to you?

Any more reno questions, I’ll be here painting, and I’ll get back to you once I wash my painty hands.  Happy Colours!  XOXO ~Amor Milagre

Q & A Miniview with Amor Milagre: A Scrumptious Trio

Amor Milagre Q & A Miniviews A Scrumptious Trio Ginger Root Organic Vegan Recipes Ethical Handmade Gift Shop Art Apparel Baby & Child food amormilagre.com

Thank you for all your lovely questions, comments, shares, and stories this past year.  In this Miniview (Mini Q & A Interview Series), I’ll answer one question at a time.

Q:  What are your favorite food combinations for cooking family dinners?

A:  I have many, but for Winter, I really love organic ginger root, garlic, and shallots together…in everything!  It works gently in sauces, soups, appetizers, on vegetables, in dips, and with fruit to create a softness.  The scent fills the house with a warm, cozy cloud of sweet ginger.  Our bodies love it because it really helps boost the immune system and keep us healthy with all the germs about in town.  I like to sauté these three, minced, in olive oil, salt, and pepper, on low heat.  When tender, add in other things or add it on top of others.  We’ll be growing these in our new garden, here at Christmas Rose Cottage, this Spring -Summer -Autumn.  This healthy superfood grouping is soothing for the senses and for stomachs, little and big.  Ginger was very helpful for maternity illness.  I find natural foods so beautiful.  The garlic’s airy winged shells, the ginger’s aromatic colour, and my tearful shallotful eyes try to admire their lilac and russet hues fading into one another.

I have included this trio in my new Cookbooks, releasing in 2020.  A new Film Series that involves some organic vegan recipe ‘How To’s’ is also on the menu.  More Q & A’s are coming up!  Please message your questions here.  Happy Holiday Cooking!  XOXO ~Amor Milagre

The new house designs are planned and will be excitedly shared here as each room is updated.  Good designs take time to grow just as a garden evolves in time.  A house is not finished and full all at once.  Over the years, we can make and stumble upon things to adorn the walls and sketchbooks.  Renovations will be appearing in this Amor Milagre journal and design books in the coming seasons.  Our new home will provide more time for me to release many collections, as well as a quieter lifestyle for our family.  We hope no one pollutes our new reverie as they did our darling Dove Cottage.  All the good memories we do have from this house are layered with the stress of the sound pollution.  We look forward to truly wonderful and healthy memories.

My book characters were born in our first house, inspiring silly dreams at bedtime, many of which are still waiting to jump into the Shop.  My husband hand-cleared the land for the house, made paths in the woods by walking his adored daily stroll in the trees years before we met.  Later, we married in our wooded haven.  We watched a family of deer cross the snowy yard every twilight.  Toys danced on the new FSC Certified flooring and little hands circled their first crayon masterpiece, making first storybooks.  New vegan recipes shined in the organic no-dig garden and were enjoyed at the table.  Illustrations graced the walls, beautifully papered with non-toxic, unscented materials.  Radiant heat kept us cozy in the cold months, and mini-split heat pumps cooled us on hot days.  All would have been more enjoyable if we could feel the breeze through our new rooms, but the sound pollution from machines, highways, deforestation, and disrespectful new neighbours increased to a level so hard to exist in, our beautiful new large windows that brought Nature in, had to stay closed.  No open fresh air means ill health, even with a mechanical ventilation system.  Where is common curtesy?  Where is compassion?  Where are manners and human dignity?  Where is Love for all living things?  We’re hopefully moving there…or at least we will continue to encourage these loving practices wherever we go…

‘Dove Cottage’ is only now ‘finished’ because we are leaving it.  A home is never ‘done’, but rather it changes over time and when in new hands.  We only just now finished the interior projects in order to move, some varying from our plans, and after all of our work, we haven’t even been able to live in the finished spaces due to our hastened move caused by sound pollution.  Though we did carve out some lovely exterior gardens, we haven’t had time to finish the garden plans around the house to share.  Our sacrifice, work, money, muscle, patience, and every second from the past several years was dedicated to Dove Cottage.  All was done by our loving hands and imagination with good health in mind for each choice.  It has been an unnecessary struggle. We didn’t even get to try the new shower or kitchen that we have only just finished.  We told the house to share the Loving Energy we gave her to the new owners and visitors.

***Amor Milagre, and our family, is in no way associated with any new owners, but our original designs of this house are copyrighted:  All Rights Reserved © 2011-2019 Amor Milagre.  I will finish and release some projects that include imagery from this house, but if any images of our house are shared online that are not by myself, Amor Milagre, then please remember that it is not us and we are not responsible for them or any messages or actions they put out into the Universe.  The internet sometimes connects images, but the sources are often lost, so please do not confuse Amor Milagre with anyone else.  The house will look similar to how it does now, as fixtures, wallpaper, paint colours, curtains, and other items are staying.  Of course, any changes to the designs going forward are not done by us and we are not associated with or responsible for new or changed designs after we move.  We are not them, and they are not us.  We designed and made this house.  Our new house will be our home and the new place of Atelier Amor Milagre (Design Studio & Office).

*Humans need to realize what they are doing to their own lives and everything all over.  Deforestation destroys ecosystems and sound barriers.  Machines (and neighbours even after speaking to them and then reporting them) need to stop polluting in every way.  We hope to regain our hearing that was lost and to recover from illnesses and stress made by constant sound pollution.  It is very serious and needs awareness to be made for it in order for healthy long-term changes to be made worldwide.  We hope to build a new home to last many lifetimes in a peaceful place for good health, and not suffer anymore from the selfishness of others.  That was what our Dove Cottage was supposed to be and why every second was pushed for it so that at some point we could settle in and truly live.  The nomadic life is exhausting and upsetting.  Everyone craves ‘home’, wherever that is for them.  We simply want to go home.

Leaving our home was made worse by the current system for selling and buying.  The real estate system is dysfunctional and massively problematic to endure.  It has failed us since Spring.  It is completely unorganized, out of order, and one late email or misplaced paper from any one of the many people involved can cause an entire deal to fall apart after the last second is up.  The incredibly hectic, unrealistic way it operates is unacceptable.  Everyone who speaks of it has their own terrible tale.  We have informed the ‘people in charge’ of this system of healthy ideas for a complete redesign of this industry.  You can use your voice to change this system.  Find your state board of realtors to let them know how troubling this system is.  They are aware of the issues, but don’t even apologize for it.  “That’s the way it is…” they say.  For everyone’s sake, they need to change it.  It’s not a nice work day for them either.  For us, it’s been yet another challenge to untangle.  We don’t want to just get through it, forget it, and move on to more positive things because, if there is an issue that affects everyone, we must try to change it to be positive for everyone.  It is still our problem even after we move.  What if we have to move again, or our friend needs to move, or anyone needs to move?  We don’t want the same system to impair our children’s life later on..or now.  There is no steadiness for planning.  Everything is last minute and you can’t count on it.  It causes you to tell your children unreliable information and that is confusing and distressing to your daily life, memories, and planning.  Every detail of life is on hold and disturbed for who knows how long.  The fees are too high, and not affected by poor performance; there is no pay reduction consequence for missing deadlines or poor communication.  We had to do most of the work ourselves to get anything done.  Another industry that needs more care, healthier options, and to charge less is the construction business.  We build our houses ourselves because we have to, even though we have very little time with both of us working full time jobs and parenting.  The local contractors overcharge and don’t provide healthy practices or good craftsmanship.  They also pollute your home, as does the real estate system, even when scent/pollution rules are set for showings and appointments.

*We really care about what we do, whether that is making a family dinner, designing our home, or painting up collections for the Amor Milagre Shop.  What we all do matters greatly to everyone and our Selves.

Each industry needs a re-design with Good Health for All as the focus.  What industries have you been involved in or have experience with?  How can you make healthy choices and changes?  Let’s not ignore problems.  Let’s resolve them.

We dearly hope to at long last be settled and sleep well, even though we have to start over once again, rebuilding an old house, after building an efficient lovely new one with amazing healthy features and non-toxic sustainable beautiful materials.  It’s amazing how truly hard it has been, having a baby, being ill, working, building, enduring and rebuilding our life every day just because the people around us do not care about their effect on the world.  All with little to no sleep due to neighbours and highways (deforestation).  Not being able to open the windows due to sound pollution causes so many illnesses and all can be prevented.  Fresh air is vital.  The nervous system and immune system need to feel safe, quiet, calm, and nurtured for good whole health.  Trusting your instincts is important, but exhausting if all you hear is threatening sound pollution.  Life does not need to be so difficult, complex, and painful.  Life, by Nature, is absolutely beautiful, if we let it be beautiful for all of us, every day connecting with Nature.  Be aware, be kind, be sensical, be gentle, be loving, be purely you!  XOXO  ~Amor Milagre

A Tomato that Tastes like a Tomato

Amor Milagre Heirloom Tomatoes Organic Garden Farm Summer Harvest 2019 Ethical Organic Gift Shop Handmade Gift Shop Art Baby & Child amormilagre.comTo grow a tomato that tastes like a tomato, the old ways are beautiful, flavourful, and healthy.  Let the bugs roam, let the sun shine, let the rain fall, and let plants be natural in Nature.

We love to plant organic, non-GMO, heirloom tomato seeds, in a sunny spot each year, on a fresh layer of homemade organic plant compost, in our organic no-dig edible plant garden.  Clear other plants from the bottom layer for optimal air flow and remove lower leaves after they’ve grown strong and healthy.  (No sprays or chemicals.  No tools needed).  Enjoy the colours and taste of all kinds of lovely tomatoes!  Plant organic basil nearby for a delicious salad picnic in the garden.  Guiding the plants, watching the flowers and bees, and being a helper of Nature feels amazing.  We love to take a closer look and thank Mamma Nature for her beautiful designs, colours, textures, scents, sounds, and tastes.  We’re fascinated by her natural packaging, recycling, and life cycles.  We also save the tomato seeds for planting new plants and label with the date.

Heirloom tomatoes taste wonderful and have old origins.  The seeds were passed down from generations of gardeners.  They are heirlooms like a beautiful antique gift from your ancestors, but these gifts produce gorgeous food over and over again to sustain a healthy family of growers.

Remember to:  Support your local organic plant farmers and gardeners at local markets, restaurants, and shops.  Get your hands dirty.  It feels good to connect to the Earth and grow healthy food for yourself, Dear Ones, and your community.  Children love to grow and eat their own garden.  One handful of seeds grows an abundance of healthy food to be eaten that day and preserved for the year.  Grow flavours, colours, quality, and good health in your garden all year round.  Plants are best when eaten when in season, ripe, fresh, and kissed by the sun.  Happy Late Summer Foods!  Enjoy Nature: The Best Show on Earth!  XOXO ~Amor Milagre

10 Helpful Healthy Energy Tips For Calm Meditation

Amor Milagre 10 Helpful Tips For Calm Meditation Ethical Handmade Gift Shop Art Organic Baby & Child Books amormilagre.com

When you feel like you’ve done too much, it’s not time to do more.  Pause, Stop. Rest…  Unwind with meditation to remember how to truly rest all of you.  Here are 10 helpful tips for calm meditation for all ages.  Take gentle care of you. xoxo ~Amor Milagre

  1.   Eat fresh plant foods and hydrate.  Stretch slowly to circulate any trapped chemicals in your body.  Drink water to improve the flow.
  2.   Routines that build energy help you.  Matching low energy with unhealthy foods and negative habits harms you.  What is helpful?  What grows positive habits?  What gives you energy?
  3.   Breathe fresh air.  See the leaves and seasons change.  Harmonize with Nature’s rhythms.
  4.   A calm space where you feel safe and are able to sit or lay still and quietly is helpful to unwind into meditation.  With practice, you can meditate in any place.
  5.   Open and unwind.  If you’re unsure how to begin, try resting quietly, without added layers of sound.  If you have trouble with this, a guided meditation can help you build a meditation routine into your memory to use any time you need to let go and refocus.  Use something as low-tech as possible.  You can even write your own guide and read aloud before beginning.  Natural sounds are helpful for connecting to Nature, so open a window or visit a garden.  A comfortable position, balanced for your spine and posture, and able to breathe in your best way, is helpful for grounding down into the Earth.  If you can, go outside, remove shoes, and ground your energy down, energizing from the Earth’s core.
  6.   Keep a small and large perspective for a balance of calm reflection and revitalization.
  7.   A healthy skincare and Self care routine helps before meditation so you feel settled and fresh, ready to explore knowing your Higher and Inner Self.  Unplug electronics for a quiet space.  Low lighting is soothing.  A soft eye mask or a cloth over your eyes can help block light, and with lavender or other favourite scented plants, you can ease into feeling your senses and awareness more naturally.
  8. An hour to let go, explore, and open helps you to not rush or dwell too long.  Release any pressure for specific goals or expectations.  What will come will surface.  Listen with your heart, open.
  9. Maintaining a healthy meditation routine helps you to keep your energy, so you don’t dip too low, lacking energy.  Humans’ ways and routines are often energy zappers for others, so be mindful to create your own unique routines for your unique needs.
  10.   You can heal your Self with breathing, processing, and letting go.  Trust your Self to take care of you, and you can take care of your whole Self, your Soul, and the Universe.

Breathe into your soft Light, and feel Love.

10 Things I’ve Loved Since Childhood, The Imagination of the Senses

Amor Milagre 10 Things I've Loved Since Childhood, The Imagination of the Senses 2019 Ethical Handmade Gift Shop Art Apparel Organic Vegan Baby & Child childhood memories amormilagre.com

Whether you’re a parent or a child at heart, remembering your favourite childhood memories is beneficial for a happy, healthy lifestyle at any age.  How did it feel to fly down the street on your bicycle, wind on your face, and freedom in your heart?  Here are just 10 things I’ve Loved since childhood.  No matter what else was going on, Nature was my reverie for funny ideas and soothing rhythms.  Speaking to your Inner Self and Inner Child helps you have fun every day.  This practice also helps you to teach your children how to have good, simple fun, anywhere at any time.  What do you like to do in your imagination of the senses?  Happy Spring!

  1.  Swinging with my curly hair down in the breeze.
  2. Walking up a hill, climbing a tree, and watching the sunset’s beautiful colours each night.
  3. Carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating on Halloween.
  4. Swimming in the ocean in light rain.
  5. Drawing pictures of anything.
  6. Running barefoot in the grass when it’s lightly raining in the summer.
  7. Making up stories and silly games outside in Nature with a friend from down the street.
  8. Dancing with the fireflies in the magical summer evenings.
  9. Designing my ideal town of kindness with chalk on the driveway, and then wheeling around on the tiny roads.
  10. Eating watermelon and tomatoes in the garden.

Of course there are some more, but these were sitting in my eyes.  Everything I Loved then, still lives in my mind now, so it’s easy to have innocent, real fun because I’ve been practicing it since then.  Remember, there is no age that you can reach that says you’re not allowed to laugh and play.  So laugh, so play, have a lovely time today!  XOXO ~Amor Milagre
