I’ve noticed that the children’s apparel pieces that I hand-design last several years, size-wise, rather than just six months to a few years. These heirloom items also don’t stretch out and are saved in our archival baby box to perhaps use later on if wanted. Etiquette lessons, and using napkins, keep clothing from being spoiled. Mostly, we keep our special pieces as a memory portal back to a certain stage of precious giggles and sparkling eyes.
Also, if fabric can be sewn, it can be easily edited if needed as babies grow to extend wear. We love styling up our outfits with light layers. Historical silhouettes influence more comfortable designs here at Rose Cottage.
We enjoy connecting to all of the beautiful techniques left for us by past nimble fingers and minds. Fashion and costume design are a weekly course in our homeschool Fine Arts & History lessons. Art is in everything we do, and we’re never done learning and experimenting. The dolls acquire most of our finery. Every button is saved to use for something extraordinary.

Babies grow so quickly…time for new clothing. This evening, pleats are on the menu for a new little pinny overdress. Custom clothing is special and fits well. It is a joy to add little meaningful hearts and embroideries into our unique design.
Can’t forget pockets so that little dolls may easily explore garden blooms…

Ah….that feeling once the homeschool portfolio has been sent… Now, to continue our daily lessons! Year-round school makes much more sense, especially as curious minds are happiest when learning and using their beautiful senses.

How are you on this late February afternoon?
I am excited about a little stack of cloths and ribbons that spark possibilities, floating in the air.
I do love a brown velvet ribbon…there is something very ‘vintage train ride through Europe’ about these streamers of rich hot chocolate…
Now, that our Rose Cottage home and garden renovations are very nearly finished, and our homeschool routine is running smoothly, I’m making time to design and sew quality, cost-sane, beautiful clothing for my seasonal wardrobe. For this Spring, I’ve sketched out plans to mend my wardrobe gaps where skirts are lacking, blouses and nightgowns could come in very handy, and a painter’s sweater will be used daily. A general welcome back to thread and needle has been in great need.
Sewing and music pair well together, and they are woven into our homeschool lessons. I’m showing my family how not to pay inflated designer, and even non-designer, costs for pieces where quality, style, and sustainability are lacking. There is really nothing out there that I’d like to buy, and nothing is affordable/durable anyways. (Fashion industry, remember Linings? Making things to last? To fit and flatter the body?) Now, if only more organic non-toxic fabric was more readily available…
I express my dreams in different mediums. Sewing was one of my first loves. It’s fun to return to it with more space to explore now. Sewing knowledge comes in handy for painting fashionable scenes. Can you see the lace edges and stitches? How were the subject’s garments made? My books include tales of the lives of many designers, artists, and…tailors! I’ll show my finished pieces later on, as I’m taking my time…
Years of sketchbook scribbles and coloured pencil fill-ins are cheering right now, “We’re coming to life!”

All of my books are love letters. The Hoppy Bunny baby book and my seasonal novels, The Love Letter Diaries, are especially heartwarming. My beloved family of book characters spans all reading levels, so if your Valentine is new or growing with every year, there is a story for you.
A new collection of beautifully unique wax seal stamp stickers releases this week. Each design was drawn by hand with love, and every seal is patiently pressed into a growing variety of colours. The artisan aesthetic and feel of these little collector’s dreams are transformative. When holding one, or when tracing the raised leaves and curls, one feels swept back to a more natural time of ancient tree root systems and fresh air. Time travellers, you know, may not agree with many things of old, but they like to keep the most endearing trinkets of each age and hold them dear. I do not agree with many modern events either, but I put out as much timeless love with my work as the day (and night) will allow. (I write stories in the moonlight. I paint by the sunshine.) These collectable stickers seal your letters with a kiss of romance. I even place them on my book covers sometimes, when special orders come in. These little touches will be fun to find now, and centuries from now, for book collectors of all ages. Babies absolutely love discovering these kinds of treasures, as do I.
My growing stationery collection greets some new designs this month. They promote the asking of dates to physical locations again. Even a friendly game is a fun way to get to know someone. A candlepin bowling card is on my printer as I type this. We tried it recently as a family date, and it was a blast!
All of my collections are intertwining and thriving together like a forest of grapevines and moon flowers. Many new books for babies, children, teens, and adults will be happily released this year. Each season going forward will boast a new packaging colour design. This winter was a deep delicious garnet paired with tarnished gold. The Loving Novels are explorations of the self. My characters include all love stories. Some of my favourite characters represent the LGBTQ lovelies. I am writing a sweet ode-style post about one such darling, releasing soon. My love stories are about real love. They are not the usual style of story, I think, because I’ve never read a book style like mine. Have you? These people, and their journeys, are from my heart. Being an empath, I absorb the world. People effervesce their love stories, silently, as they roam the earth, trying to heal themselves and find small ways to express their joy. Love means something different to everyone and at different stages of life. What does love mean to you now? Much of my characters’ adventurous narratives derive from my own inner world as well. I write of what I wish for the world, for myself, and for my family. My philosophy is, “If you design it, you will live it. Surround yourself with love.” I design beautiful stories and let their positive inspiration spill out into our home. What path and feeling do you wish to design in this moment? They honour the sacredness of childhood, the delicateness and intelligence of children’s innate loving natures, and the preservation of their kind hearts. My words teach all the basics of language while encouraging imagination, peaceful creative problem solving, and the celebration of individuality and universal connection.
