Whether you are designing a house, edible perennial garden, menu, schedule, or lifestyle, the process is the same.  A healthy, wholesome foundation is key for inspiring light & love into every decision and direction.  Live in the Light!

Preparing food to play well with others makes the most of your groceries and garden.  It’s easier on you too since you have things on hand to lend your creativity to satisfy your mood.  Creamy or crunchy.  Babies and children of all ages like variation in addition to favourites they can count on every day.  Keeping the weekly meals exciting inspires pleasant surprises for the party, good manners, healthy portions eaten, good play, and deep rest.

Chick peas are a great source of protein.  They have fiber, manganese, and folate which help keep your colon healthy, heal wounds and strengthen bones.  These cute little guys can also help lower the risk of heart disease.

There are endless flavour variations for this basic hummus recipe.  Add some roasted red peppers, olives, artichokes, or other favourite flavours.  Stir some hummus into a soup, use the tahini and/or hummus as a salad dressing with olive oil, spread on homemade healthy bread or crackers, dip veggies into hummus, mix with other steamed veggies, or use whole cooked chick peas in a salad.

Tahini

Non-GMO, organic, local, vegan ingredients:  (oil-free)

Lightly toast 1/2 C of sesame seeds in the oven or in a heavy skillet on the stove.  Let cool and blend with 3-5 tbsp water.  Amount depends on consistency desired and number of people you’re serving.  We make enough for a family’s week.

Hummus

Non-GMO, organic, local, vegan ingredients: (oil-free)

Soak dried chick peas overnight in a bowl of water.  In the morning, add bowl contents to a large sauce pot and add more water to avoid burning.  Add 1 tsp of cinnamon and Ras el Hanout.  Cook on low with a closed then tipped lid until tender.  Water will be mostly gone.

Add chick peas, remaining water, tahini (recipe above), 2 cloves garlic, juice from 1/2-1 lemon to a blender or food processor.  May need extra water for blender/preferred consistency.  Salt and pepper to your liking.

For babies, do not salt.  We keep some whole chick peas and make hummus with the rest.  Babies love eating it both ways, as it is good practice with using a spoon and fingers.

A heated up half mashed-half whole chick pea snack with water, pepper, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, and a little bit of corn meal is great for older babies.

Store in a glass container with a lid.  You can eat this as is and also in a variety of ways.  Babies here love lemons as a dessert.  Use whatever you have left for other dishes.  Waste nothing.  Grow as much as you can, and buy things with little to no packaging for less garbage, recycling, work for yourself & others, Earth space that can be used for growing more healthy foods.
