In life, we have the opportunity to try things, discard the harmful, and build a collection of beautiful flavours, ways of seeing, and glorious movements that free us to live the authentic romantic life that we each deserve and are destined to experience.  This week we celebrate the brilliant Radish and the famous Turmeric!

Radishes prove trustworthy, gorgeous friends in the kitchen by aiding our health in many directions.  Research it for the full list.  My favourites are:  hydration, filling while low carb, Vitamin C, immune boosting, sinus clearing, prevents illness, soothes bug bites & stings, moisturizes and cleans skin, helps respiratory conditions, great for diabetes, detoxifiers aid with cancer (anti-cancer, anti-heart disease, anti-inflammatory), packed with antioxidants (Brassica Family), help with digestion, and many other amazing qualities.

Make the most of your food.  We use the entire radish from the greens, to the skins, to the roots.  Carrots, parsnips, celery, sweet potatoes, and more can be used whole.  Research each food to ensure safe use of each part of the plant.  It takes so much energy for plants to grow from seed.  Appreciating every stage of growth is a wonderful way to respect and honour nature.

Teaching children how to grow food is something they’ll never forget.  It’s a valuable lesson and a wonder to behold each day.  This batch of sprouts is our baby’s second garden.  Watering the sprouts, greeting them in the morning, and tucking them in at night all work well with a baby’s nurturing spirit.

Weekly Soup

Non-GMO, organic, local, free range, grass-fed ingredients:

This week’s soup: fennel bulb, swiss chard, and the tops and roots of the radishes all slow cooked on low in a pot of our bone broth, then pureed with a few tbsp olive oil and a dash ground pepper.  This makes an excellent baby-and-me meal, snack, and daily supply of healthy nutrients.  Add some zested/grated parmigiano reggiano cheese on top and enjoy.

You can add the leftovers to scrambled eggs or use as a sauce for meat dishes as well.

Turmeric Radishes

Non-GMO, organic, local, free range, grass-fed ingredients:

Using the broth from the soup, ladle some into a pot of sliced radishes to steam them with a lid on low until tender.  Add in a dash of cinnamon, a tsp or so of turmeric, and pepper.  Blend when tender.  Use below in cornbread pancakes with or without chicken, in scrambled eggs, and as a side or snack.

(As always, check with your doctor if baby/person is on medicine or going to have surgery before serving turmeric.  Good for 1 year and older.  Check for individual allergies before serving combined foods.)

Turmeric has over 600 antioxidants.  It has many powerful health benefits for internal and external uses.  It has been used as a spice and a medicine in India for thousands of years.  Research turmeric and curcumin for the full list.  My favourites are:  anti-inflammatory, great for osteoarthritis, improves brain function, helps heal wounds and improve skin, protects the liver, aids in digestion, helps prevent cancer, helps with cancer treatments, aids in symptoms from certain cancers, provides relief from many disorders and diseases, and more!  Turmeric gives curry its yellow color.

Radishes are a great source of anthocyanins, which not only dress these beauties in their rich colours, but provide numerous health benefits.  The shimmering white centers sparkle in the sunshine.  Natural foods are incredible for the senses.

Turmeric Radish Cornbread Pancakes

Use our pancake recipe here and add some batter to a buttered pan on medium.  Add a dollop of the turmeric radish puree, from our recipe above, to each pancake.  Cook on both sides until done.  Zest/grate a light layer of parmigiano reggiano cheese over the top.

A wonderful baby-and-me snack or special brunch.  These are ok for babies 1 year+ as you pair a small pancake (which is mostly veggies and a little pancake) with other fresh or steamed foods.

These make a wonderful starter, side, or party appetizer.  The cornbread is sweet, and the turmeric and cheese is savory.  Choose your spice level for your tastes.

Borrow and continue movements from anything you’ve learned that lends a beautiful lightness of being into your soul.  Remove any coats of pain that are fearful or muscle memory that was forced.  Surround your joints with love.  You are a beautiful, shimmering radish of innumerable colours.  You are a powerful, healing turmeric root.

Grounding Exercise:  Stand and breathe.  Legs shoulder width apart.  Rock gently back on forth slightly on feet until you find your center.  Imagine a root growing up from the center of the earth and through the center of your feet, stretching up your legs, up your spine, and up to the sky, blooming in soft pink petals and fuzzy green leaves.  This tree of life supports you.  It is unique like you.  You are strong, centered, and grounded in nature’s pureness and healthy knowledge.  You are aligned and breathe deeply in through your nose and out, in a cycle that runs back through the core of the earth.  You are one with the universe and inside the peaceful voice of your true, authentic self.  Smile and breathe.  Life supports you.  Continue into your day and night with love in and out.  Drink water and breathe gently with love.

Tomorrow:  Wake up and stretch gently up to the morning sun, and let the flow of health circulate in your body, clear your mind, and ease any tension, breathing in new air, and breathing out smiles.  Soften with each breath.  Sew seeds of goodness for yourself today, feel their radiance tomorrow.

Teach and show this to your babies and children, friends, and co-workers during breaks.  Answer questions with love and smiles.
