Pure cacao is an ancient superfood.  In moderation without sugar, your health can benefit from its wonders in many ways.  This is an occasional treat.  We use the crunch of cacao nibs instead of granola daily to take advantage of this superfood.  It’s all about the little changes that have a massive beneficial impact on our health, immune + nervous systems, and brains.  We’ve taken out all ‘chocolate’ items from our home/diet that contain anything other than cacao.  The other ingredients, including sugar, are hurting our bodies.  I use cacao to balance seratonin levels and…

… “the antioxidant power of flavonoids and essential minerals and vitamins found in cacao can support healthy heart functioning by lowering blood pressure, improving blood flow, lowering LDL cholesterol, and reducing plaque buildup on artery walls.”

Fruit is a natural sweet substitute for sugar and the like.  Sugar makes your body work very hard to fix all of the issues and addiction that come with it.  Since we’ve taken sugar out of our diet, I already feel immensely better and my body is calmer and doesn’t have to fight so much.  It does not crave sweetness, but rather it is hungry for natural, nutritious, fresh food that truly tastes like itself.  You don’t need maple syrup or honey either.  This way of eating costs less, takes up less space in your home, creates little to no garbage/recycling, and is less mental trouble to gather at the store as well.  When we eat healthier, natural foods our bodies don’t gain+lose weight all of the time.  The body loses weight naturally, requiring less forced exercise in unnatural environments and allowing more time and enjoyment for healthy, natural exericise outside and/or in a healthy home.  Fresh unpolluted air is a great daily ingredient and practicing yoga breathing not only nourishes our bodies but calms our soul as well.

Sweet Cacao Mash

A great, quick dish to have anytime, especially lovely in a candlelit bath before bed.

Non-GMO, organic, local, fresh, vegan ingredients:

1/8 C Ground Flaxseed Meal

A small piece of an organic 100% cacao (baking) bar and 1 tbsp 100% cacao powder.  (No sugar added.)

One mashed up banana.

A tiny pinch of natural, local sea salt.

1 tsp Saigon Cinnamon

A few tbsp unsweetened Coconut Milk

Mix ingredients well on stove on low.  Cook while stirring every few minutes until it firms up slightly, pulls away from sides, comes together.  Our stove took about 5 minutes.  You can add in other spices and fruits if you desire.  This mixture makes a velvety consistency.  The sweetness is subtle and healthy.

Wild berries from the garden are small so you only need a few of these flavorful blasts, leaving more to save for later.  We know a few someones here that may eat endless amounts of wild berries if left to a bowl of them.  Pick and eat!
